Homemade Waffles from Scratch

There are few breakfasts I love more than a big stack of waffles. While they’re my go-to at almost any restaurant, these easy homemade waffles, made completely from scratch, are quickly becoming a regular at home as well.

These homemade waffles are thick and fluffy and require just a few ingredients. The best part? Each ingredient is likely one you already have in your cupboard! That makes this an easy breakfast idea for any morning, even if you need breakfast in a pinch.

What You’ll Need

This easy waffle recipe requires just 6 ingredients.

  • Flour
  • Baking Powder – This will allow the recipe to rise in the waffle iron.
  • Salt – Enhances the other flavors.
  • Milk – You can use whole or 2% milk.
  • Eggs – Room temperature.
  • Oil – Vegetable and canola oil both work.

  • Add the egg whites. Whisk the egg whites until foamy in a separate bowl. Combine into the waffle batter, but do not overmix.

Topping Ideas

When serving these waffles, you can stay classic with a little bit of butter and maple syrup or you can add some fun toppings to make your breakfast a little fancier. Here are a few ideas:

  • Fresh fruit (especially berries)
  • Whipped cream
  • Powdered sugar
  • Flavored butter
  • Jams or compote
  • Chocolate sauce

You can also use these homemade waffles as a base for other dishes Cheesy Cornbread Waffles with Chili and Nashville Chicken and Waffles.

How to Keep Waffles Warm

To keep waffles warm, without becoming soggy, arrange them on a baking sheet in a single layer. Place them in a warm oven (set to the lowest heat setting) while you finish cooking the remaining waffles.

How to Store and Reheat

Waffles will last in the fridge for up to 2 days or you can freeze them for up to 3 months. In both cases, allow them to cool completely before storing then place them in an airtight container or Ziploc bag.

The easiest way to reheat homemade waffles is to pop them in the toaster – you can even do this from frozen! If you’re reheating several at a time, you can also bake them in the oven for 10 minutes at 300 degrees.
